Integration with the scale of the local buildings was one of the presuppositions of this architectural project. It was fundamentally a question of not creating on the Funchal landscape a building which would appear discordant or aggressive, either because of an excessive number of levels above ground, or due to its volume.
The solution proposed, determined by three, apparently autonomous, structures adapts to the gentle slope of the land, dispensing with the need for high supporting walls and compact and excessive building volumes.
The central building reaches a maximum of three levels above ground, the remainder reaching just two levels.
The result is an irregular structured outline surrounded by platforms of landscaped gardens, in harmony with the existing buildings dispersed on the hillside.
From a closer perspective, the focus on integration is further evidenced both by the use of basalt stone, very characteristic of the area, on the supporting walls, and by the careful and discreet landscaping of the external areas.

A integração na escala das construções existentes no local foi um dos pressupostos do projecto de arquitectura. Tratava-se fundamentalmente de não introduzir na encosta do Funchal, um edifício que resultasse dissonante ou agressivo, fosse pelo número excessivo de pisos acima do solo, fosse pela volumetria adoptada.
A solução que apresentamos, resolvida em três corpos aparentemente autónomos, implantados paralelamente às curvas de nível em três plataformas de terreno, encaixa na pendente suave do terreno sem o ferir e sem dar lugar a muros de contenção elevados nem a volumes de construção compactos e excessivos.
O corpo central atinge parcialmente um máximo de três pisos acima do solo, ficando-se os restantes pelos dois. O resultado é uma linha de cércea irregular rodeada de plataformas ajardinadas, em consonância com a dispersão das construções existentes na encosta.
A uma escala mais próxima, evidencia-se esta vontade de integração, seja pelo uso da pedra basáltica nos muros de contenção, tão característica no local, seja pela amenidade conferida aos espaços exteriores criteriosamente ajardinados.
