The project consists of the renovation of a historic site in the city of Funchal, creating new sports facilities, but preserving and valuing its original character and its function as a public garden. The creation of the new infrastructures, particularly those aimed at tennis playing, were designed with the aim of not having to move any trees nor increase the size of paved soil, resulting in an increase of 850m2 of green areas.
The architectural approach adopted for all the new building work was guided by one fundamental premise: integration and assimilation with the environment.
As well as the creation of new sports facilities, the project also includes the restoration of the original house, adapting it to new functions such as a tea room, restaurant and library.
O projecto consiste na recuperação de uma quinta histórica da cidade do Funchal, equipando-a com novas infra-estruturas desportivas, mas sempre preservando e valorizando o seu carácter original e sua utilização como jardim público.
A implantação das novas infra-estruturas, sobretudo as destinadas à prática do ténis, foi estudada para que não fosse necessário proceder ao transplante de nenhuma árvore nem aumentar a área de solo já impermeabilizado, o que resultou num acréscimo de 850m2 de área verde.
A solução arquitectónica adoptada para todas as novas construções regeu-se fundamentalmente por um princípio: integração e dissimulação na paisagem.
Para além das instalações desportivas, o projecto compreende ainda o restauro da casa original, adaptando-a a novas funções como casa de chá, restaurante e blibloteca.
