Extension and restoration of the premises of the old Tea House at Santo da Serra; conversion into a 4 star 22 room Guest House. Built at the beginning of the 1930's, it is a typical example of the 'chalet' of "Art Nouveau" influence, one of the few still in existence in Madeira. The project comprised restoration of the existing structure and the building of new premises for rooms and services. The new wing (18 rooms) encompasses two storeys above ground level and is connected to the original building by means of a high vaulted glass bridge. This bridge is the only link between the two buildings, each one of which fully assumes its own architectonic identity. The new building, with its northern façade dominated by the extensive steel framework, presents a neutral background against which the character of the original building is displayed.

Ampliação e remodelação das instalações da antiga Casa de Chá do Santo da Serra, convertendo-a em Estalagem de 4 estrelas com 22 quartos. Construído no início dos anos trinta, trata-se de um exemplo típico do “challet” de influência “Arte Nova”, um dos poucos que existem ainda na Madeira. O projecto compreendeu o restauro do edifício existente e a construção de raiz de um novo corpo de quartos e serviços. A nova ala de quartos (18 unidades) desenvolvem-se em dois pisos acima do solo, ligados ao edifício original apenas por uma ponte envidraçada de grande vão. Esta ponte constitui o único elo de ligação entre os dois corpos, que assumem plenamente a sua identidade arquitectónica. A construção nova, com a fachada Norte dominada por um grande pano de caixilharia de aço, apresenta um carácter neutro, funcionando como “pano de fundo” ao edifício original, de expressão mais figurativa.
